Leppin, a talented multi-instrumentalist, is a forceful presence in the music scene. Born and raised in Northern Virginia, she has spent over 20 years studying and performing cello and voice. A desire to expand her musical horizon led her to improvisation.
Leppin presents her next project with some of the best live performers in the DC area. Weavings showcases several large-scale weavings that she constructed out of her shredded vintage stage clothes. Each features a live musical interpretation.
Performers include The Messthetics (featuring Brendan Canty and Joe Lally of Fugazi along with guitar wizard Anthony Pirog), Priests’ Katie Alice Greer and G.L. Jaguar, plus many more. This unique performance is not to be missed. $10. Doors open at 8 p.m.
I am no fan of imitation. However, I do appreciate when a band makes a cover or style their own. This is the case with Starcrawler who are performing on Sat., Feb. 17th at DC9.
Formed in Los Angeles one year ago, this young band was quickly discovered by London DJ Matt Wilkinson who started playing their single “Ants”.
Starcrawler plays rock & roll music heavy and loud with provocative performances resemble the punk performances of the Cramps, the glam style of Kiss and the antics of Alice Cooper. Their self-titled album is out now on Rough Trade Records. Be prepared for some theatrics by lead singer Arrow de Wilde who sometimes crawls around on the stage and spits fake blood. Iggy would be proud. Tickets are $12. Doors open at 7 p.m.
