Three men were shot on the 1100 block of K Street SE Saturday. The shots were fired from a white sedan. Officials said it was likely a targeted shooting.
Three men were injured, two of them seriously wounded. All three were transported to local hospital.
Witnesses at nearby Ginkgo Gardens said the shots sounded like they came from an automatic weapon, a noise ‘like the Fourth of July fireworks finale,’ estimating that between 20 and 30 shots were fired. Police were already in the area and heard the gunshots. As they canvassed the area, a Lieutenant wrote, they were called to the scene. K Street was closed between 11th and 13th Streets SE for the investigation.

According to the District’s Crime Cards, there have been 46 gun-related homicides so far this year, and increase of 11 compared to the same dates last year. 32 homicides have taken place in the last three months. That is an increase of 13 lives lost compared to the period between Feb. 11 and May 11, 2019.
Police found the white sedan in the Seventh District shortly after the incident. In an email to a local Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner shared with constituents, officers said the vehicle was part of the peer-to-peer vehicle sharing service Getaround. MPD has previously noted that sharing apps make vehicles more vulnerable to theft.
