DC Businesses Open for Pick-Up

Many Hill businesses are re-opening for front door or curbside pick-up this week after they were approved for the COVID-19 Educational and Academic Retail Shops (EARS) Pilot.

The pilot grants waivers to local educational and academic retail shops to do curbside and front door pickup. All sales must be advance purchases made online or by phone.

The stores were approved for a waiver, demonstrating protocol for employees and customers. They also have agreed to share data and information with us about their operations to help the District get information about reopening and ensuring safe operations.

The pilot started with a focus on educational supply shops, including those selling books, games, toys, craft and office supplies. It has since expanded to allow card shops, florists, sundries and beauty supply stores to apply for the EARS waiver. Salons and barber shops selling beauty supplies can apply too, but only for the purpose of curbside or at the door pickup of supplies.
