The Capitol Hill July 4th parade will not be marching down Barracks Row this year, but organizers are planning a video parade.
The traditional parade has been cancelled due to restrictions on large gatherings during the ongoing public health emergency. But organizers are not going to let that put a stop to the annual celebration of the Capitol Hill community and the United States.
Instead, Naval Lodge No. 4 has announced that they are going to assemble a virtual parade of short videos from all of the organizations who usually march in the parade –including you!
Here are the guidelines for submission:
- Videos must be shot horizontally.
- Videos should be about 5-7 seconds long. Yes, that isn’t much time, but there are a lot of groups to fit in.
- Participants should dress in the costumes, uniforms, or outfits they would normally wear at the parade.
- Video should be shot in a safe manner, which means that groups who do not live together should have their each shoot a video. They will be edited together, and tiled “Brady Bunch” style. Seclet one person whose audio will be heard.
- Videos should be emailed to [email protected] along with the name of the organization and the name of the people appearing in the video.
- All videos must be submitted by June 16 so that there is time to edit them together.
- Creativity is encouraged. If you have an unusual request for how your groups section should be edited together, please indicate this in your email.
The more groups that participate, the better a job the final video will show the wonderful community spirit of our neighborhood.
And the usual fine print: by submitting a video, you are giving organizers permission to use it, without payment, for this project. The video will be publicly exhibited, and you waive any right to inspect or approve the finished product.
