One person was killed just north of Lincoln Park in the early morning hours of Friday, August 28 when a motorized scooter collided with a pick-up truck going the wrong way.
Police investigation indicated that the operator of the scooter was traveling westbound on Constitution Avenue NE shortly after 1 a.m. Friday. The driver of a Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling the wrong direction on 11th Street NE, which is one-way southbound. When both vehicles reached the intersection of 11th Street and Constitution Avenue NE, the scooter crashed into the enger side of the Ford F-150.
Both the scooter and its operator came to final rest in the roadway. When DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services (DC FEMS) arrived on the scene shortly after, they determined that there were no signs of life.
The scooter operator was pronounced dead on the scene and transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating.
On Friday, August 28, 2020, the driver of the Ford F-150, a 52-year-old Capitol Heights MD resident, was arrested and charged with Murder II.
