It’s been 2 years since Mott’s Market closed its doors. By this summer, they will open one more time under the direction of Peyton Sherwood.
It’s an exciting time, but the folks at Mott’s still need a few more bricks in the wall. The bricks are part of a fundraiser for the final elements — a new bay window out front and a covered porch and back patio.
That’s why Mott’s Neighborhood Market LLC established the Buy-A-Brick campaign. For $500, you get a full-sized brick with an inscription of your choice. The bricks will become part of the back patio, so you can visit your brick any time you come to Mott’s.
“Folks are using the bricks to commemorate family, say something about the community, or plug their small businesses,” wrote Michael Skinner, the President of Mott’s Market Neighborhood LLC, in a letter to ers.

More than 75 neighbors banded together to purchase Mott’s Market when it went up for sale in 2022. A fixture near Lincoln Park for more than 100 years, Mott’s is now poised to reopen and serve the community for another century.
Skinner says his hope in revitalizing this corner store is to offer even more local shopping and dining options in Capitol Hill and to create a community gathering place that can benefit the whole neighborhood, including fellow local small businesses.
The brick will form part of the Mott’s back patio. This inviting outdoor space will offer year-round seating, wifi, and comfortable environs that will encourage guests to linger over their morning coffee or end-of-day glass of wine. Every brick will be a visible reminder of the for and investment in our community.
Order your brick today to commemorate your children, your family, a loved one or an organization. To ensure that the bricks can be installed in time for our summer opening, the deadline for buying a brick is April 30, 2024.
