There’s no-one on the ballot to represent Adviory Neighborhood Commission 6B. But there’s an extremely qualified candidate running as a write-in candidate: the incumbent commissioner and ANC 6B Chair, Edward Ryder.
ANC 6B08 is the area bounded by the river to the south, the Sousa Bridge to the East and the 11th Street bridge to the west. The northern boundary runs roughly along Pennsylvania Avenue from 11th to 13th Streets SE, running south down 13th Street to K Street before looping around Barney Circle.
The SMD has been represented by ANC 6B Chair Edward Ryder since 2020; when he was elected to represent SMD ANC 6B07 prior to redistricting.
Originally, Ryder had decided not to seek a third term. He and his growing family were planning a move. Although they had hoped to do so within the neighborhood, with SMD boundaries being so small, he knew there was no guarantee that they would find something within the district. “I thought it best to step aside and encourage others to run,” he said.

But since then, the family has reconsidered the timeline for our move, and so will live at the same address for some time. But, Ryder says, more importantly, no one decided run for 6B08. “I don’t want to see the seat vacant,” Ryder said. “I want to ensure 6B08 still has representation, I want to be able to appoint resident to the committee. ANC 6B as a whole is also having a lot of turnover and I felt that I could help use the experience I’ve gained these past two years to help new commissioners.”
A transportation wonk, Ryder is ive of bus and bike lanes Ryder was endorsed by Greater Greater Washington when he appeared on the ballot for 6B08 in 2022. He has also pushed development on the Southeast Boulevard and at Barney Circle, working with former ANC Commissioenr Kelly Waud to address issues in community.
Ryder served as ANC 6B Treasurer for one year and, more recently, as ANC Chair for the past two years, “so I felt I could help new officers out if they needed guidance.”
Those wishing to vote for Ryder should write his name in as “Edward Ryder” (not including Stillwell, which he has sometimes included elsewhere).
Ryder said it has been an incredible honor to serve the constituents of 6B these past four years. “I love our neighborhood and I would be humbled to be elected to continue for a third term.”
