The National Park Service (NPS) Is temporarily closing the big kid playground – the north playground – in order to repair the wooden retaining wall. It is be closed from 11 a.m. on Oct. 9 until noon Nov. 30. Visitors are forbidden to enter inside of the black fencing. The south playground, designed for smaller children, will remain open.
The wooden retaining wall, which forms a semi circle behind the playground structure, had been suffering from disrepair for several years. Recently, several of the wooden piles had become loose and splintered, presenting endangered to small children. The structure served to retain the ground to the east of the structure, which is at a higher elevation than the rest of the playground.
