Matt Miller

Matt Miller, is a senior manager of Government Relations for a large company. Originally from Portland, Oregon, he has lived in DC for almost eight years and has a background in energy policy. Miller’s motivation to run comes from his experience with the ANC and local government in Navy Yard, where he worked with Councilmember Charles Allen (Ward 6-D) and ANC 8F for safety improvements on I (Eye) Street SE.

“It was actually fairly empowering,” Miller said. “And so when I moved to Eastern Market in July of this year, and I found out there was no candidate for the single member district, I thought, well, this is something that I care about, and so that’s, that’s how I ended up here.”

Miller lived in the neighborhood for nearly three years prior to the pandemic, returning this year because, he said, It also scomes from his desire to ensure small, community-focused business growth in Eastern Market. “One thing that I’m really focused on, or would be focused on, is making sure that sort of the business growth in the neighborhood continues to be small business focus first.”

As in Navy Yard, he also emphasizes pedestrian and cyclist safety, advocating for protected bike lanes and traffic-calming measures, continuing the progress that the ANC has made  on cyclist and pedestrian first infrastructure, as opposed to car centric infrastructure.

He believes the current election year is driving more people to engage in local politics, and he aims to continue the neighborhood’s progress if elected. In this pivotal election, he feels driven to take action where he lies. “I love this neighborhood,” Miller said. “I was sad during the pandemic to move away, and I was ecstatic to move back. And so for me, I care very deeply about this specific neighborhood.”

Brian Gorman

is also running for ANC 6B04. He did not reply to requests for comment, but you can read the candidate statement he gave to Capitol Hill Corner here.
