Shooting Near Eastern High School Friday

East Capitol St NE is closed from 17th to 19th Streets as Metropolitan Police investigate a shooting.

Police say they responded to a call at around 9:42 a.m. Nov. 22 for the report of a shooting on the 1700 block of East Capitol St. NE.

Update, Friday 8 p.m.: MPD has released images of vehicle, suspects in Nov. 22 shooting near Eastern

When they arrived, they found a teenaged male who was conscious and breathing but suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening wounds, police said. “This offense does not involve the school and did not occur on school property,” am MPD spokesperson said.

“Eastern was in alert status. It has since been canceled,” a DC Public Schools (DS) spokesperson said.

In a letter home to Eastern families, Eastern High School Principal Steven Miller confirmed that while the shooting was unrelated to the school, the victim was an Eastern student. “Our thoughts are with the impacted student in their family as they recover,” MILLER wrote, suggesting that Students in need of conversation turned into the school psychologist and staff counselors.

A lookout was issued for four Black males wearing dark-colored puffy down coats, armed with at least one handgun. They were last seen traveling in a gray 2018 Nissan rogue bearing DC registration G C 5 7 2 1. One of the suspects is reported to have dreadlocks and a light complexion.
