Police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead early Monday morning.
Just after midnight on Monday, Feb. 24, police were called to the 1600 block of Benning Road NE, in the area of the Hechinger Mall, for the sounds of gunshots.
When they got there, officers found an adult male, unconscious and not breathing, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
DC Fire and EMS (DCFEMS) responded to the scene, but despite all life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased.
The decedent has been identified as 48-year-old Larry Evans of Northwest, DC.
