Help Van Ness Elementary School (1150 Fifth St. SE) celebrate ten years of academic excellence with their spring Blossom Ball.
Van Ness was honored for 10 years of service, growth, and community impact in the heart of Washington, DC by a letter from Mayor Muriel Bowser. The Mayor noted the school’s commitment to nurturing students academically, socially and emotionally while creating a welcoming and inclusive community. “I am especially grateful for Van Ness’ innovative approach to learning and its focus on equity and excellence,” the Mayor wrote.
Commemorate this decade-long journey at the Blossom Ball Gala on Friday, April 26, 2025. From 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the Rooftop Deck and Penthouse at 800 Maine Ave. SW. All are welcome! Tickets are available online.
The gala is accompanied by a silent auction, which raises funds for the Van Ness Parent Teacher Organization, ing programs, resources and community at the school.
This year’s Gala will highlight the incredible individuals and organizations that have helped shape Van Ness into the nurturing and inclusive school it is today.
Honorees include:
- Leadership Excellence Award: Current Principal, Maquita Alexander
- Leadership Excellence Award: Assistant Principal, Aly Roberts
- Community Partner Recognition: Capitol Hill Community Foundation
- Community Partner Recognition: Capitol Riverfront BID
- Legacy Leadership Excellence Award: Cynthia Robinson-Rivers, Founding Principal of Van Ness
“Their unwavering dedication to education and community building has created a legacy we’re proud to celebrate,” the Van Ness PTO wrote in a letter announcing the occasion.
