After Congressional decisions and cuts to the current budget at home, the District budget is running two months behind.
The budget is expected to finally arrive at DC Council (and to the public) on Tuesday, May 26.
Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen (D) wants to hear from the public. He has rescheduled the Ward 6 Budget Town Hall rescheduled. Save the date for Tuesday, June 17, at 6 p.m. at the Hill Center (921 Pennsylvania Ave. SE)
RSVP here to get reminders as we get closer to the event.
Allen says the Town Hall is a helpful way for himself and his team to explain what’s in the budget, what the constraints are, what Allen agrees with and where he has issues. Then he turns it over to the public in an open-mic style town hall to ask for questions, comments and priorities.
At meetings with Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (ANCs) leading up to the Mayor’s presentation of the budget to council, Allen pointed to the declining revenue predicted by the Cheif Financial Officer (CFO) in DC for the next three years, the reduction in the federal workforce and the potential for a recession as a result of international and national economic decisions at the federal level. Allen has repeatedly said that he expects this to be one of the most challenging budgets of the past 20 years. Cuts are expected and additional revenue must be found, he said, without putting the burden on a single sector of the District’s population.
“I hope you can attend,” Allen said in his Ward 6 newsletter. “This is always invaluable to me and my staff as we work on making changes to the budget to meet your needs and expectations.”
