The next Eastern Market Metro Park (EMMP) community meeting with the Department of General Services (DGS) will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 31 in the North Hall of Eastern Market (corner of Seventh Street and North Carolina Avenue SE).
The meeting will discuss the updated park design, recently approved by the Commission on Fine Arts (CFA) and the next steps towards the park renovation, which is expected to begin in December and last approximately one year. The public space hearing for that construction permit is scheduled for August 22, although a final agenda has not yet been posted.
Commissioners for Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 6B expressed disappointment at their July meeting that permit hearing had been scheduled for August, when many constituents and commissioners would be out of town and unable to comment, arguing that the Public Space hearing was the one opportunity for Commissioners and of the public to comment on EMMP as part of formal procedure.
Construction on a temporary playground began July 22 on EMMP Parcel 1, with the installation of perimeter fencing, staking and tree protection.
